I have been practicing martial arts for 17 years, with 10 years extensive study in the Chinese art of Wing Chun from Sifu Augustine Fong in Tucson Arizona. I have competed in full-contact/sanshou, submission grappling/BJJ, MMA, and formal challenges. While training in Arizona, aside from being a competitive fighter, what I was really known for was my ability to teach difficult concepts in a simple straight forward manner.
While I actively compete in martial arts, I understood that most people do not. Most individuals practice combat arts for self-defense, fitness, and better understanding of how their body/mind connections work (chi?). This was very much the environment at the Tucson school and I plan to keep the laid-back approach in my curriculum. I want to teach understanding not intensity.
